The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation hosted its Seventh Annual Gala on Friday, November 13th at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. With the support of our sponsors, the event raised over $1.3 million dollars. These monies will be used to advance our mission and expand our educational initiatives nationwide.
Over 40 celebrities and sports stars gathered to honor the Ten-time All-Star, 1999 World Series MVP and a Role Model on-and-off the field, Mariano Rivera.
Hosted by Bob Costas and Joe Torre, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, David Cone, Robinson Cano, Bernie Williams, Don Zimmer, Don Mattingly, Lee Mazzilli, Jose Cardenal and Hideki Matsui took the stage to reminisce and honor The Closer.
If that wasn't exciting enough, the evening ended with an outstanding performance by 12-time Grammy Award winner, Paul Simon. Our 540 guests were entertained with renditions of "Me and Julio Down by the School Yard", "Mrs. Robinson" and the "The Boxer," which was accompanied by Bernie Williams on guitar.
