Every child should feel Safe At Home. For many children, home is not a place of comfort, but instead a place of fear. Joe Torre knows that fear. He grew up in household where he was afraid to go home in fear of his father's rage and violence towards his mother. It's why he and his wife Ali started the Joe Torre Safe At Home® Foundation.

The Foundation's mission is educating to end the cycle of domestic violence and save lives. Through awareness campaigns we strive to shed light on this mostly hidden national tragedy. In order for communities to be able to support victims they need first to be educated on the issue of abuse. To prevent the cycle of violence from perpetuating into the next generation, we must educate and support the children of today.

The Joe Torre Safe At Home® Foundation has instituted a program called Margaret's Place, named after Joe's mother, in schools throughout New York City. It's a comprehensive program that provides students with a safe room in their school. Students can meet with a professional counselor trained in domestic violence intervention and prevention. One of Margaret's Place's core initiatives is to implement a school-wide anti-violence campaign at each site. Building a cohesive culture of nonviolence in the school provides students with meaningful opportunities for leadership and promotes social responsibility.
